Just found this and need help

Ok I just found this> but my question is will it only work sending it to another iPhone. I text it to a friend and she got the text but nothing was there. not a smart phone. Than I text another friend with a smart phone and she got the massage but not the little icons, than I sent a text to another friend with a iPhone and he got it all. So does this only work from one iPhone to another. Thanks for any help explaining this.

Thank you very much for the info. But I text a girl with a high end Android phone and she got the Emoji icons but they were black, no color.

Android has their own emoji "theme" so it would look different on her phone but a smiley face will still be a smiley face on both phones.
