Gah! Plymouth
Man do i love apples refurb store just got a dual 1.8 for 1499 ^^ now i just need to upgrade the RAM (says it has 256) and i need to get a bit more money so i can get a dell widescreen monitor with it ><! then i will work on the video card. I can't wait for it to come in

this is going to be my first desktop so i will be asking a lot of questions on how to do what (i have only had laptops up till now, but now i need both)

hope everyone is ready for stupid hardware questions :p

It already shipped it says :p YAY so now i will have a computer without a monitor possibly :p *waits on 2005FPW*

*getting giddy*

Yep i looked at that entire manual already, i was just wondering from people with first hand experience if it is easy.

Just wanted to thank everyone on this site for making it one of the best sites on the net (along with mine of course)

Congrats on your purchase. I'm sure you'll love it. I've got a 3 month old Dual 1.8, and I love it. Definitely upgrade the RAM. I was able to get a really good deal on a RAM upgrade ($100 extra for 1 GB of Apple RAM), then I added another gig, and it's really nice to have plenty of RAM.

Awesome, I've had one of these at work for over a year now and it's a great machine. Just upgraded it to 2gb of RAM and a 9800 graphics card. Sweet

As for your wireless card question, it's easy...just slide it in and connect the antenna.

thanks for the help

next question from me :p

I have been having trouble searching for a better video card to purchase, i wanted to look for the ATI 9600 (can't remember if the XT is for mac as well or not) All i have been able to find is the 9800SE which is about 200 dollars.

Sorry for the double post (keeping things to one thread) I just got my 2005FPW and OMFG it is huge I LOVE IT!!!! *currrently dual monitoring on my powerbook*

www.macsales.com has the following cards available:

Apple OEM/ATI RADEON 9600 PRO 8X AGP 64MB VRAM $99
Apple OEM/ATI RADEON 9800 8X AGP 128MB VRAM $179
ATI Technologies RADEON 9800 PRO MAC SPECIAL EDITION 256 MB VRAM $275
ATI RADEON X800 Mac Edition - 256MB $499

Hope that helps.

thank-you risc i have been looking around but am not all that adept at finding desktop parts.

EDIT: am i assuming correctly that the ATI 9600 is better than the NVIDIA 5200?

Apple does have great refurb deals. Installing the airport card is quite easy. There is a little slot for it below your superdrive. Attach the antenna and slide that guy in until it's snug. Your PM will recognize it.

With RAM, I trust you know by now it requires two cards to equal the RAM you buy (i.e., 1 GB would be 512x2...) They are kinda tough to push in, you have to put a little force into it, it almost feels like you'll break the mother board...

Keep your orginal RAM handy until you know the aftermarket is stable...

Goodluck, have fun and dust often.

woooo got my powermac today, spent the entire day setting it up and moving data from powerbook to powermac. I love this thing so much, now all i have to do is upgrade ram (only 256) upgrade video card (only 5200 now) and get a WD Raptor HD

for the sake of not creating a second thread i just installed a 16X DL DVD burner into the powermac today, took a little it more effort than i was expecting (removing the screws on the DVD burner in the computer was a bitch, to put it bluntly, so was removing the face of the new DVD burner. it is a Pioneer, DVR-A09XL showed right up in system profile. I will admit this is so much fun, that my friend and I are going to upgrade my old powerbooks HD and optical drive, then set out on building our own PC from scratch

Congrats. I LOVE my dual 1.8.

I'm on vacation and haven't seen it in a week and a half. God I miss it.
And if you are looking for more excuses to get your hands all up in the case, may I suggest some cold cathodes? Non permanent, non-Applecare voiding, and a nice nerdy project for a Sunday afternoon.
