Just got a Dual Band Router. Is there a way for 5ghz & 2.4ghz to auto switch?

For example,

i have both the 5ghz and 2.4ghz SSID & passwords the same.

When I'm in 5ghz range my file transfer speed is awesome. However when I go outside to my backyard 5ghz gets really weak so my macbook auto switches to the 2.4ghz radio, but here's the problem.

When I come back inside my Mac never picks up the 5ghz radio again. it just stays on the 2.4ghz mode.

any ideas?
