Hi pals, I just received this machine. Got it for a decent price. However, I do have some queries, and hope pals here can help me out:)

1) I have done my share of research and found there isn't much recall/well-known problems with this the 2010's MBP 13/15/17. But is there any?

2) Is this capable of supporting DDR 3 1600mhz rams?

3) I just installed OS X Sierra. In the midst of installing, I heard a loud single beep. Then it shows a blank out, restart and then show a progress bar. May I know what is this and is this normal for this machine?

Thanks:)

I’ve got a 15” 2010...

1) GPU/capacitor problems, mostly found in 15”

2) I’ve tried 1333MHz and it down-clocked to 1066MHz

3) That’s a firmware update, pretty normal...

Had a MBP 2011 17" that died and thought to try the 1333MHz 16gb of RAM in my MBP 2010 17"
Didn't work, start-up looked OK at first then stopped.

Did you do anything special?

Have you tried using just a single 8GB...?

My 1333MHz experiment was exactly a single stick of 8GB... double sticks did not boot at all...

15" had a RAM limit of 8GB only, though someone claimed here (read a thread somewhere) that 17" 2010 can unofficially go up to 16gb...

I believe the 2010 17 inch, at least the i7 should be capable of 16GB rams. However, speed plays a part and I would wish to know whether it can support 1333mhz or even 1600mhz

Mine's i7 despite 15", but still limited by 8GB, and down-clocked to 1066MHz...

You can give it a try on your 17"...
