I just got a macbook and I was wondering what cool free apps I should get and any other helpful information you can provide as I'm a Windows user and using a mac now and any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Welcome to the Mac! I hope you soon find it's awesome ;)

(I always say something like this to new users :))

hmmmm...depends what you want to do really. A good Twitter client - HelTweetica or Tweetie for me. IRC client - Colloquy is something I like to use...iStat Pro is a dashboard widget that is pretty useful when it comes to troubleshooting and just keeping an eye on your system...there are probably others but they're the main ones that I use.

how about a zip program or do I really need one?

I know on my pc I use winzip and it really helps a lot.

I will check out those programs you mentioned.

I'm still learning the mac but when I was using my PC last night I kept looking for the red X button to close the window so I'm already starting to convert :)

I even got a magic mouse for my macbook!
