I recently bought a Macintosh LC off a add on Craigslist and I'm extremely happy with it. The only problem is that I would like for it to be able to get on my LAN. Due to the fact that the machine doesn't feature an Ethernet port, and definitely doesn't have any wireless capabilities, it doesn't seem that this task is simple.

I've Googled around for a while in search of a Ethernet solution and cannot come up with anything I can fully understand.

My goal is to use AppleTalk on the machine. If you know of any way for me to accomplish this task, please help me out here.

Any help would be much appreciated, and providing links to hardware or add-ons would be great!

Edit 1: Here's a link to the specific machine. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/mac_lc/stats/mac_lc.html

Try searching for an "LC PDS Ethernet Card".

Note that there may be two types:

1. with AAUI connector (Requires an adapter to be used with RJ45 Ethernet Cabling)

2. with RJ45 Ethernet Socket (the kind we all know and love)

3. with BNC (Bayonet coaxial style) these usually have bothe RJ45 & BNC Connectors. See the top card here

You may need drivers but these should be accessible if the cards don't work with Apple's Network Software Installer ZM-1.5.1 for system 7.0-7.5.5

I've got an appletalk to ethernet bridge you can have, but I doubt you are in Ottawa.

I had an old PM 9600 hooked up to my lan with the adaptor, and I was seriously shocked that an ancient powermac could find all of my other macs on the network with OS X. :p

Thaks for the responses.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I'll probably go for that product mentioned above, but currently I have bigger issues than networking with my 'new' LC.

Hi jaynone,

In case you are still looking to find a new home for the appletalk to ethernet bridge, I am in Ottawa and could use it. I have an LC III which can run Apple IIe or connect to lan but not at same time (iie and Ethermac cards, only one can go in the PDS slot). With this adapter, I should be able to do both at once.
