So I'm now the proud owner of a new 27" iMac (3.4ghz Core i5, 8GB ram, Geforce GTX 775M). Is there anything I should look out for as far as problems related to the system? I've heard some horror stories of systems with LG displays and was wondering if there's any truth to the matter and if i even have to worry about that with a brand new machine.

Congrats on your new computer. If it looks OK to you, it's fine. You may want to consider adding some memory, though.

Thanks! And Yeah that was the reason I went with the 27 inch, so I can expand the ram when I need the boost. 8's alright at the moment, as I've been using 2GB for a while now.

If you've been OK with 2GB, you'll probably be fine with 8GB. Use it well.
