This is my first console for intent and purposes; I bought it for the Bluray playback capability, but I figured I might play some games on it.

I only play first-person shooters and RTS games with a keyboard and mouse, so that's out.

I have played controller based games on the PC/Mac, but I figured the experience might better on the console.

Any recommendations? I'm open up to all genres (just not the two I mentioned).

I'm also up for games that have eye candy… I'm a sucker for that.

So far the only thing I have is a GT5 Prologue… which I bought a wheel for.

Call of Duty MW2. Some people may slate it, but the multiplayer is good and the story is one of the best I have played. This game has consumed an awful lot of my time since release.

Thanks, but like I said, I only play shooters with a keyboard and mouse… not to mention I already own that on PC.

What the above poster said. Battlefield Bad company 2. God of War 3. Those plus GT5:p are basically all I've been playing.

You're joking right?
By any chance you don't consider Hulk Hogan's The Nanny to be the greatest story ever? :D

I'd go for-
MGS4, Little Big Planet, Assassins Creed 2, Uncharted 2, the Pixel Junk games on PSN (all). Or what is effectively known as the PS3 starter pack™.

I'll not say I've played all these yet, but I recently got a Slim too because I really wanted Blu-ray for my new TV, and I think the PS3 finally has enough exclusives to be worth getting for gaming too. ;) Like the OP I will NOT play FPS or RTS on consoles.

- Metal Gear Solid 4 (I'm playing through the whole series, will play this when I finish the others.)
- Uncharted and Uncharted 2
- God of War 3 and Collection if you haven't played the first two
- Final Fantasy XIII (I'm not usually a fan of JRPGs but this one seems a bit more accessible to non-fans; only a few hours in so I can't give a solid opinion but no complaints so far other than Vanille's annoying voice... and annoying everything else.)
- Flower (it's short, but worth it if you like these types of games)
- Split/Second is coming out next month, if you like arcade-style racing games
- Infamous (friends tell me it's quite good, haven't tried it myself)

With the exception of Split/Second and FFXIII those are all exclusives, and FFXIII is supposedly much better on PS3 anyway. It's possibly the best looking game I've seen to date, though Uncharted 2 is pretty spectacular also.

Final Fantasy XIII
Resonance of Fate
Demon's Souls
Little Big Planet
Uncharted 2
Heavy Rain
God of War III
God of War Collection
Metal Gear Solid 4

Games to pre-order:
3D Dot Game Heroes
Red Dead Redemption

Uncharted 2 is one of the best games I've played on any platform.

I'm normally a casual gamer, such that I play a game on Normal and forget about it after that. However, I've liked Uncharted 2 so much that I'm now about half way through on Crushing mode (which means I had to finish on Hard first).

Uncharted 1 is also very much worth playing.

If you like RPGs, Final Fantasy XIII or Resonance of Fate are fun. Red Faction Guerilla is fun too, its a shooter though not first person so I don't know if that'll be of any interest. Street Fighter 4 and Soul Calibur 4 are good fighting games. Little Big Planet is a must, I don't own that one yet but I've played it at a friends house.

Demon's Souls gets one more vote from here too. If you are from Europe, you might want to pre-order the Black Phantom Edition (Limited Edition) of it (image and more info), that is coming 25.6. It has already been released in US, though.

Thanks guys, I'll look into those titles.

I noticed a lot people (including friends) are telling me to try Final Fantasy; is the game really that good?

And I have GTA 4 for PC (which runs in the Mac Pro really well I might add); is there any difference between the versions? I love the game.

If you already have the PC version then skip the PS3 one, as the PC one looks better.

I think Final Fantasy XIII is great, but I was waiting 4 years for that game. Followed it religiously every since the first teaser was released. It has gotten mixed reviews though, die-hard FF fans are divided on the game as it does a lot different and is not the traditional Final Fantasy game in a few specific ways. Notably there are no towns or mini-games which the last few FF games have been well known for.

So apparently there are 2 expansion packs for GTA4 that't not available on the PC… *sigh*

I also picked up all God of War, Final Fantasy XIII, and Heavy Rain.

Damn $250 lighter.

I'll probably pick up more titles later if when I finish these.

The only thing I'm not too happy about right now is the installation. I thought the whole point of the console was the ability to just put in the disc and play!

I found it odd and annoying that even demos require an installation once downloaded (even Steam avoids this on Windows!). But, FFXIII doesn't have installation... it doesn't even have the option to.

Here's the list of the games I own and highly recommend:

BioShock
BioShock 2
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
God of War Collection
God of War III
Heavy Rain
Infamous
LittleBigPlanet
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

WipEout HD Fury. Absolutely awesome and the first PSN game everyone with a PS3 should buy.

I'd also recommend Motorstorm: Pacific Rift as this is great fun too.

If you like fighting games, then you really are spoilt for choice: Super IV, Super Turbo HD, Marvel vs Capcom 2, KoF XII, the incredible BlazBlue etc.
