Right side of wrong
i just a new ipod touch as a bday gift. but clearly it doesn't have 3.0 on it. do i have to pay another $10 for 3.0, or should i just take it back?

or should i take it back and wait til september to get one?

If it is unopened and there are no engravings on it, you could, but I'm sure it wouldn't look nicely on those who bought it for you as a gift.

As a gift, I would totally just open it up, use it, and then just pay the $10 fee for the 3.0 upgrade. Waiting less than a week for just $10 doesn't seem like a big advantage to me.

Why would you wait till September to get another iPod Touch? What's special about September?

September is normally when the iPods get updated...

Oh, I guess that is true, however, if a person is patient enough, then you could wait till then. Being impatient as I am, I would just start using the device right away haha.

Agreed. Keep it, and pay the $10 when the 3.0 update comes out.

the person who bought me the gift would understand if i took it back. that's why i haven't opened it yet.

but i am tempted to just open it. just not sure

There's still the possibility that 3.0 won't come on the iPods until the new batch comes with the refresh. This is what they did last year, so you might be out of luck if you try to return it. I say just open it and enjoy.

$10 for 2nd gen iPod Touch with OS3 and you are complaining? sheesh!

Yes you can wait till September and see if there is a 3rd gen Touch, and then you could wait another 12 months for the 4th gen, because it can only get better right?

The 1st to 2nd gen upgrade was enough to get me to buy one, the lack of an external speaker was always ruling 1st gen out as I can't use headphones at work, but I can use a 2nd gen with external speaker.

Use it, enjoy it.
