i finally got the new ipod for my bday (so happy!)

my question: what is "push" in the settings?

It means "Push Mail" basically you can link it to your mail account and when you recieve a new email it "pushes" it to your phone! That way you can read it, reply etc.

Push is like when you change something on your computer mail, it changes on your iPhone/iPod Touch as well. Fetch will get your mail, but only works on one. For example, you will receive a message on both your Computer mail and iPhone/iPod Touch mail, but if you edit it on your iPod Touch, it will not change on your computer with fetch.

oh ok...not that interested in push i guess.

does it save battery if i use push instead of fetch?

That is not entirely true.

Push is an instant notification - ie. you receive a new message instantly.

Fetch is a timed check - ie. you receive new messages every 15 or 30 minutes.

Changing messages etc is all supported in IMAP, only it will sync every 15 minutes.

Currently only Exchange and Yahoo! mail support Push so even if Push is on, it will only Fetch for other types of email accounts.
