I just got this right now and at the galleria apple store they didnt charge me any restocking fee!!!! They didnt say anything about it so I didnt argue.=)

I was within my 30 days and wow this 17" is so sweet!! No dead/stuck pixels (just checked right now)! It does seem a bit more snappier than usual and I need to play around with it more to see the speed increase differential better but its sweet nonetheless!!

One thing to note is that its a bit thicker than the previous generation 17"!

But I am one happy camper!! :D

Congrats!

Can you tell us what the i7 model is like in terms of heat and noise? (e.g. when running geekbench or any cpu-heavy application)

Congrats. But one question. It says online the 17" is only available in a 2.53ghz. How did you get a 2.66ghz?

So far (running on battery) its very quiet and cool. Its showing 6 hour battery and the battery meter looks to be 70% full.

I just got done eating and starting on the process of putting my intel ssd in this sucker! :D

I'll put up some geekbench scores a little bit later (althought it will be with an intel SSD). :D

i7 2.66 is optional upgrade for an additional $200 but the performance increase is not justified in the cost.

Another difference I've noticed is that the magsafe is different, its like the one on the macbook air.

I'm not too sure right now but I'll bet a 2.53ghz i5 vs. a 2.66ghz i7 will make a bigger difference (not due to the clock speed really but the chipset) than it did with the core 2 duo models.

Same design for a recent whitebook. I guess they are all like this these days.

PS Congrats. And nice on the noise, or lack thereof.

The i7 is clocked a bit higher and has 1mb more cache. They are based on the same chip, though.

Don't worry, the i7 is still the fastest. ;)

Hard to tell from your photos but that's the same silver bezel around the screen as was used on the C2D 17" MBP yes?

I'm waiting until one of my local stores has a 17" i7 glossy screen available - hopefully that will be tomorrow...you lucky dog getting to play with your new MBP now. :)

A bit thicker? Apple still says it's .98 inches thick (same as last gen. 17"). Anyway, congrats!!!:)

I guess I was getting used to my 15" lol.

Ironically I sold my 17" originally to move down to the 15" but I moved back up to the 17".

After a good month of carrying around the 15", the 17" wasnt all so bad. Especially now its equipped with the i7. :D

congratz... I just bought one and realized it was antiglare and not glossy ... so gonna get it changed at some point somehow ... heard that they arent stocking the glossy apparently in stores

anyway awesome that its finally out. Mine benches more then the leaked bench on geekbench
