Just got my brand new silver 24” iMac direct from Apple it was BTO model… so took about a month…

Absolutely amazing machines, as you can imagine I watched a ton of unboxing vids before it arrived and noticed two things whilst unboxing….

1. Mine never had that fabric mesh sort of material covering the iMac out of the box, it just had the ‘hello’ screen protector and the plastic wrapping… has anyone else received it without the fabric sort of mesh cover? (See pic for what I mean).

2. Mine had quite a bit of white residue all around the stand, like a white talc like powder… is that quite common? I am presuming it just residue from the machining of the stand from the factory.

Just concerned I have had a refurb unit that’s all…

Did it come in a branded box, with a picture of the iMac on it? If it did, it's not a refurb, unless Apple changed how they ship refurbs. The refurbs I've purchased from Apple came in a plain white box, tucked inside a plain cardboard box for shipping. If it came in a branded box, exhale, and enjoy your new iMac!

Yeah it came in a branded box, everything was wrapped as expected apart from the iMac itself… I am presuming Apple are reducing unnecessary packaging, and possibly have removed the mesh covering as it’s really doesn’t protect any extra.

Tell you what though the majority of the weight of the package is in the box itself, it’s unbelievable how heavy it is even without anything in it lol

My refurb came in a shiny box, no idea how I would've known.

More concerned about someone who watches "a ton of unboxing videos" for a Mac. It's a box, it has a Mac inside.

If it's a plain, shiny white box, it's a refurb. If it's a shiny white box with the apple logo, a picture of the device, etc. on it, it's new. That's been my understanding at least, having bought both new and refurbs from Apple.

I'm glad they're not skimping on box strength, at least. These devices can take a beating during shipping!

Enjoy that new iMac. Out of curiosity, what specs did you get?

Yeah honestly there is no way the Mac would get damaged the box is like a tank lol…

8GB CPU / 8GB GPU, 512GB 16GB Ram in silver… want to keep this system for a while so went a bit over board but think it will be worth it.

Lmao!!! Don’t know why I have an addiction to unboxing vids but most of them are unboxing/review videos in all fairness, not just literally someone taking the Mac out of a box, I seriously need to do more with my life ??

I just received an iMac shipped from China and it also had the "Hello" card with the thin plastic wrapping.

No foam wrap like previous models.

I didn't notice any white powder at the base however.

Ah so yours never had that mesh sort of cover then?

That’s put my mind at rest… apple must have told them not to bother with it due to being excess packaging or something

Yeah ... I guess Apple is trying to use more 'environmentally friendly' packaging materials.

The box is a beast, and heavier than the computer it protects! My order, computer and box, arrived in the US from China in perfect condition.

Yeah when I went to store the box away, I close it picked it up, then re-opened it as I was convinced I left something in there lmao!!!!

I would say the box accounts for about 75% of the overall weight of the shipment, really good on apples part though, as mine was in perfect condition.
