Hi all,

Ordered a new iMac from the Apple Store online and it arrived today. So far, the machine is fantastic! I was surprised however to see that there was no OS disc in the box —*is this normal procedure now or was it an oversight by Apple?

If it is normal procedure, how would I go about reinstalling the OS if I ever need to?

Thanks,
infieldfly

Pretty sure CD's went away with Lion and all new Mac's come with Internet recovery if i'm not mistaken.

Starting with the most recent version of OS X Apple has practically discontinued distribution through physical media. It's all through the Mac App Store now. You can still buy a USB drive with lion on it at Apple stores though.

Also, if you have Lion pre-installed, you have a recovery partition on your hard drive. That serves as your "Restore Disc". Your apps can be re-downloaded from the App Store if necessary.

Not sure that I like not having a disc, but I do feel better knowing that it wasn't an oversight. Thanks for the info!

No CD's in my new iMac 27" that i got on Monday. It had me worried until I saw this post!
