i just got my new macbook. and when downloading, it is really slow compared to my old one... how can i get it to go faster.

The only thing I can suggest is to check System Preferences and make sure you have IPv6 disabled and your firewall off. If those two are correct then the guy above me has it right, its your internet connection.

it cant be my internet because it has never been this slow. it used to fly with my old one. so something with the new one has to be different. maybe some settings.

this sucks.

Are you using a wireless ?

If so , try connecting directly to your modem and see what happens.

Good luck ,

ive always been using airport. wireless. nothing has changed in a day to make downloads slower. besides the purchase of a new macbook.

It could've been a coincidence that your internet slowed down the same time you got a new Mac.

Try using the internet somewhere else for comparison?

Download speeds are contingent on a zillion things, most of which have nothing to do with your computer. Several variables may have changed - the load on or speed of the server you're downloading from, the number or quality of seeds on a torrent, or the number of neighbors on the same cable line.

What are you downloading, from where, and how? What kind of speeds were you seeing before you got your new computer, and what speeds are you seeing now? Was there some sort of benchmark that you had before that you could try again now and compare?

make sure you're on the right wireless network as well.. and not some weak one down the street

Try rebooting the Macbook and switching the power off and on again on your modem/wireless router.

That should reset everything and it should be fast again!

I would be very surprised if it was anything to do with your macbook. Most likely that your internet is just running a bit slower than usual. You can check your internet speed etc. on speedtest.net

Correct! It just happens... Cox at home was slow for me a while back for an entire week... 75% of the speed was gone.
