I bought the ATI 4870 for my MP1,1 after my old 8800 died. So far I like it, and can play most games at full res on my 30".

But now there's a 5870 option. I realize this is speculation, but is there any chance this will work in my MP1,1? If so, I have a few days to return it.

Well, that's assuming two things:

1. Apple will sell a 5870 upgrade kit. That has yet to be determined.

2. Assuming the availability of said upgrade kit, Apple (or ATI/AMD) leaves an EFI-32 ROM on the card (which you need for a Mac Pro 1,1 or 2,1), in addition to the EFI-64 ROM. This was the case with the 4870 (and probably on accident), though we can't assume the same would happen with a 5870 upgrade kit.

So, it's hard to say. How long do you have to return the card?

14 days normally, 7 days in.

I'll keep it. I can run most games at 2500x1600 now (including all the HL games) so I'm not sure what more I would need. CoD4 slows down a little at this res, but not much. I'm pretty happy.

Really? I couldn't run HL2 with all settings maxxed and stay smooth - AA was the big killer and I had to keep it at 2x to remain playable but the 5870 allows all the settings, including AA to be maxxed out. TBH they could have improved the HL2 port since I tried it with my 4870.
