I just purchased a new TB display and am trying to pair it properly with my air. I put the resolution as high as it goes (2560x1440) ... but for some reason there are black bars on the side, it's not full screen and also looks stretched in the sense that everything looks magnified rather than clean and crisp. I'm on the latest version of the 13" air.

Any help would be appreciated.

Turn off mirroring

But when I don't mirror, I can't see anything on the screen - no dock or icons or anything, just my desktop background.

EDIT: Never mind, figured it out - just had to close my air. Thanks.

Open display properties and you can configure everything, primary display, which side your air is placed, how high it is and which screen you want the menu bar on. You do not have to close the Air.

Have a play.

You don't have to close the air, in display preferences you can drag the menu bar from the air display to the thunderbolt display
