Just got to the BEACH

The Redneck Riviera: Perdido Key, Orange Beach Alabama. Poor man's holiday! It's nice, though. I'm meeting my wife who's on business here. All play for me...after we spend a few minutes together this afternoon! :D :D

Of course, to show my age: instead of just hanging by the beach all day, I'm going to Fort Morgan where they are netting migrant birds for banding. Maybe I'll see some rare species I've never seen.

See ya!

Naw the sign of age is that you concede that whatever has to be done this afternoon will only take a few minutes... :D

Check your email. I'm sure there's something in there that can help you extend your time together by half an hour or so. Ahh, isn't SPAM lovely.

Have fun. :p

LOL

redneck riviera....that's good..

That's what they call it! :D It's for those of us who can't afford Destin and want to be able to drive somewhere close in the south.

My day's been great:

Got up at 5 a.m. and went to Fort Morgan for some birding. I was able to see my life bird, the Painted Bunting. A group is catching migrant birds with nets, then banding them. It was awesome.

Left there about 10:30 a.m. and trekked over to Lulu's. I had Mahi Tacos...WONderful!

Then to the hotel...a short nap, then a Long Walk On The Beach™, a couple beers by the pool, and a chilldown again back at the room.

It's Maundy Thursday, so being a good Episcopalian, I went to services at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. Then I went to the Original Oyster House for some gumbo, which had crab claws in it! You have to fish them out and eat the meat off each of them. Good stuff!

Anyway, one good day overall...now I'm ready to get back to see our kids!

How is it going to be possible to make my c*** bigger! AGAIN!!! That thing is gonna have stretch marks, poor baby. :(

What is the (American, though Europeans seems drawn to it as well) fascination with The Beach?

I went to the beach today at Portobello (near Edinburgh) with some old friends - it was cold and windy, but very sunny and warm if you kept moving! Once we sat down for a cone of chips we got a bit cold but it was a very pleasant day out indeed. :)

I like the smell of the ocean, walking on sand barefoot, feeling the sand fleas inbetween my toes, hiking to some of the cleaner ones north of here and I absolutely love to be around ones with tidepools. I honestly I don't think I could live anywhere else that isn't a short distance from a clean ocean.

It's just one of those weird things. We seem drawn towards water. When you're at the beach, the ocean is just miles of the same thing as far as you can see, but the land has all sorts of interesting things like people, buildings, plants, animals, whatever. But where does everyone look? Towards the water. I can't explain it, but humans are simply drawn towards water, the bigger the body of water, the better.

I find where I live that everyone heads to the beach around holidays. It's like a mass exodus. Maybe since I grew up "at the beach" I'm not so thrilled by it.

It's funny, because I grew up near the beach and because of that I don't really like living that far from a beach, and I love going back.

I should quantify by saying that I still love the ocean and find the sound of the waves quite soothing and exhilarating. But I don't care for a jillion fatties all sunbathing like beached whales and therefore don't feel the need deep in my loins to rush to the ocean at any opportunity like so many people around where I live.

Ooh no, I agree. Sunbathing is rubbish. I really like a nice wintery beach. :)

Boo! No point in a beach unless it's warm and sunny out! But I do slather SPF 45 or 50 on every hour or so. :p

I just hate how sand gets everywhere! Eyes, mouth... ugh. But I love the sound of the waves and the smell. Mm.

I was at my beach house a couple weeks ago. It was cloudy and grey the whole day. :(

I can't wait until school ends and the weather is nice

Babies, fire, and water. You can sit and watch them forever (plus they taste great together)!

Hehe, LOL.

Having grown up in a RI beach town, maybe it's the MASSIVE influx of people (and the associated traffic/overpop issues) that has turned me off to beaches.
