Wow that's kind of a bummer if the Intel can't hold up. And it's not even totally Apple's fault this time too (though similarly sized laptops have managed to pack a dedicated GPU in there).

Do buyers of the new 13" Macbooks Pros that don't come with a discrete GPU find that their systems are having some trouble keeping up?

The 13" MB/Ps never came with a discrete GPU, only the iBooks had one back in the day. The 13" MB/Ps always used an IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor - GMA950, X3100, 9400M, 320m, Intel 3000 HD Graphics or whatever it is called).
