Just installed a new DVD/RW in my G5

So the original drive that came with my G5 was having a little trouble opening all the way. So i had a spare IDE DVD/RW laying around and decided to pop it into the system. It works perfectly and even opens without any trouble. The only problem is now, it seems the system is accessing the drive quite a bit even when there isnt anything in there. I see the green drive light come on and flash once every couple of minutes.

Is this normal behavior? I never noticed it with the original drive.
