Do i have to put optical drive back in, Btw i have dropped one of the optical drive screws i think its somewhere behind the logic board i cannot find it anywhere, i am just closing up the iMac now i am just not sure if i just leave the optical drive data cable & temp cable taped to the back of the iMac.

any ideas guys

thanx heaps in advance..

I would´t power on the iMac before the screw were found and removed.
You might experience your fans going wild, as long as the temp cable isn´t connected to anything.
At least that was happening with the 2009 iMac when replacing the HDD with SSD.

I cannot find it anywhere I have tipped the iMac upside down i even went as far as shaking it, i checked behind the logic board , i have a feeling when i pulled it out it fell out of my tweezers i am hoping it hit the fan on the way down & bounced off the fan & out of the iMac…

my 2011 has 2 data connections I AM keeping my 1tb hdd I am going to boot the SSD 256 840 PRO & just erase the 1TB for extra stooge..

I found the screw here i am looking everywhere in the iMac, it was actually sitting in the fan on my desk, i picked up the fan & it feel out, what a relief.
on with the closing up of the iMac…

thanx...

Install success

Finished the installation of the samsung 256 840 pro SSD on the 27 inch iMac 2011, Booted up in 13 seconds & all is going well so far, I am getting 499 mbs write speeds & 521 mbs of read speeds.

The original HDD iTB I ended up erasing it & just having it for extra storage
I wanted to leave the optical drive out but I have heard it could make your fans spin out of control so i put it back in, I very rarely use it.
overall I am liking the SSD, it is the best upgrade i could of done to my iMac.
just to add I used trim enabler for trim support, link below
