I recently moved to New Zealand from the US..I jailbroke my iPhone last night and downloaded the Ultrasn0w..I then put in my NZ Vodafone SIM card and it still says 'No Service'. Any ideas on what this might be?
Unfortunately, the process is a lot more complicated than simply jailbreaking and installing Ultrasn0w.
What firmware & baseband does it have? You can check these by going into Settings > General > About. Firmware is listed as "Version" and baseband is listed as "Modem Firmware".
version 4.3.3
baseband 05.16.02
version 4.3.3
baseband 05.16.02
Baseband 5.16 cannot be unlocked with ultrasn0w. The only way to unlock you phone is to install the IPAD baseband with Redsn0w and then run Ultrasn0w.
However, you need to be aware that GPS will no longer work and you will never be able to update using itunes again. You will always have to use custom firmware created by applications like pwnage tool or sn0wbreeze.
Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)
I haven't looked on here in over a month and I was curious if anyone knew if they had made any progress with this issue? I'm running 4.3.3 on 5.16 baseband and I'm really hoping that I will be able to unlock my phone at some point but I'm not willing to loose my GPS.
Unfortunately, you cannot unlock with your current baseband. Only 5.13.04 and downward are unlockable, in addition to the 6.15.00 iPad baseband.
With Redsn0w, you can install the iPad baseband 6.15.00 which will make your phone unlockable with Ultrasn0w. There are a few drawbacks to this, however. You will no longer be able to restore or update to stock firmware and will need to create custom firmware files using Sn0wbreeze (Windows) or Pwnagetool (Mac). This task is not as daunting as it seems; all you need to do is feed the stock firmware file (also known as an IPSW) to either program and it will spit out a custom firmware for you that you can then restore to with iTunes.
Also, the 6.15.00 baseband will not allow you to use your GPS.
For this process, I recommend using Redsn0w 0.9.6 RC17.
explain this to my like I am an 8 year old. I do not care to lose my GPS, as I will be getting a new phone when I return back to the States. Just want to use my iPhone here.
I already have the iOS 4.3.3 IPSW downloaded to my computer, do I just need to install redsnow now and then click on IPAD Baseband as well as Cydia? I got thrown off when you started talking about firmware.
