Just jailbroke, recommendations?

I just successfully jailbroke my 1.1.4 8GB IPT. I have the Installer icon on the home screen. What do I do next? As far as changing the home screen background, changing icons, colors, the cosmetics And other fun apps.
Any tips how not to mess up my IPT so I don't have to jailbreak it again? I tried this process about a good 7 times.

install customize and summerboard (they will let u completely customize ur ipod)

yes i would do that too.
You can also add this to your sources

once you add that then go to sources in installer and download install all sources. It will give you lots of sources to get. And if you download alot of stuff i would reccomend categories. I would also reccomend mxtube. You can download the youtube videos straight to your ipod. Also apollo, tap tap revolution, and izoo.
