God.. Don't know if it's a bug, but I backed up my beta 6 install in iTunes before restoring, it said backing up, and I even clicked synchronize/backup two times. In iTunes, the box with "Backup to computer" was checked.

But no.. Just installed iOS 7 GM, and latest backup I can choose is from July 30...

Also MobileSync folder where the backups are stored is empty.

Just a warning for you guys! Be 100000% sure it has backed up.

His iCloud might be full, regardless it wasn't his fault. The same thing happened to me on a iPhone 4 upgrading to iOS 5. I made sure I made a backup and when I went to restore it was gone.

Take precautionary measures everyone.

Why did you NOT use iCloud??

1) There's not enough space (also backing up my Mini).
2) I don't often use iCloud with beta software, as I normally have my stable backup on that :)
3) I have all my contacts on Google Contacts, and e-mail is all IMAP/Exchange, so they cannot be lost.

Only thing is Photos, but I don't take many Photos, and backs them up every week to the computer.

So I don't really loose any important data. It was simply a warning to you other guys doing GM installs right now :D

I backed up my iPhone 5 to both iTunes and iCloud just prior to installing the GM, and once I installed GM I also couldn't see either backup. However it let me restore from the backup prior to the most recent one.

However, for my iPad mini it did see the backups i took just prior to installing the GM.

Freaky.

Is there any way of installing the GM without restoring a backup? I'm at college and won't be home until the weekend. The computer that I sync to is at home.

I've found that iTunes does a REALLY poor job at restoring backups. I used iCloud because I ran into the exact same issue. iCloud restored my beta to GM no problems.

USE iCLOUD!

It's GM then  Wait for real release

GM is what they put on the phones that are already being manufactured and shipped to stores. Bugs will be fixed in 7.0.1.

Only time they've released a second golden master was with iOS 4.2 for iPad that had a serious WiFI issue. But that was just an update for existing devices, and was not being manufactured on new devices, so it was much easier for them to push a second GM.

I'm not sure why you keep saying that.

The 'Golden Master' is what they release to the public. It's what they call it.
Are you overlooking the sarcastic  smiley? The whole point of that kind of post it to point out how many people kept on putting down practically all issues as simply "it's a beta" thing, practically reassuring people that everything will be just perfect when GM is here...and of course there are still issues here and there with the GM. Thus the post to mock all of that "it's a beta" stuff.
