Unless you are using memory intensive applications you won't notice much of a difference. Still wise to stuff it full at the current prices though since it *will* eventually be useful.

Well I plan to go to school for computers here pretty soon and I think the RAM will help out for virtualizing Operating Systems.
In that case it will DEFINITELY be useful. OS virtualisation is the biggest memory hog ever. You spent wisely.
Actually, it will make a big difference in applications such as Final Cut Pro X, Maya, ZBrush, etc.

Yep indeed does. Final Cut runs great in 12Gig
Not sure of the OP's apps though. If he is going to run VMware or Parallels then stuff the thing full. But a bit of word processing, iPhoto, light gaming and web surfing that is pretty much what most folks do - the standard 4 gig works fine.
