Unless you are using memory intensive applications you won't notice much of a difference. Still wise to stuff it full at the current prices though since it *will* eventually be useful.

Well I plan to go to school for computers here pretty soon and I think the RAM will help out for virtualizing Operating Systems.

Yep indeed does. Final Cut runs great in 12Gig :) Not sure of the OP's apps though. If he is going to run VMware or Parallels then stuff the thing full. But a bit of word processing, iPhoto, light gaming and web surfing that is pretty much what most folks do - the standard 4 gig works fine.
