First off i would like to say hi to everyone on this forum. i have been reading around for quiet sometime now and couldnt put off the iphone any longer. i just sent my order into apple.com today and cant wait to activate it....thanks to all

Congrats, like others you will love the interface and the ease of syncing with your Mac. If you don't have a Mac then shame on you!! haha jk.

Any reason you didn't purchase from an Apple store so you could be using it already?

Make sure you use the search function if you have any questions

A high, HIGH majority of complaints have already been talked about and answered :D

Well done, congrats on waiting until after MWSF and not falling victim to something similar to the pricedrop a few people experienced by buying it the day before a big Apple event. True, you gained nothing, but more important you didn't miss out on anything...until they release something new.

well unfortunately there is no apple store in my area...i would have had to drive 4hrs to the nearest one...so i just ordered it

Ordered one myself yesterday. I was holding off in hope of a 16gb revision at MW but since that's come and gone with no new phone I decided I'd waited long enough.

Same here, and I couldn't be happier. For those of you who are waiting, you could be waiting a LONG time. Why wait? The iPhone is amazing NOW, and will continue to get better and better with each free update.

once i get my iphone, i think i will order the mac book pro in a month or so

Congrats on the purchase, kr4zy10.

I will be joining the ranks of iPhone owner too in about 4 weeks, the day after I arrive in Los Angeles. But I want it now!

Anyone know the reason the Buyer's Guide still states:

Product: iPhone
Recommendation: Don't Buy - Updates soon

?

Has it just not been updated since MWSF? I see no reason why it should still state this as the recommendation- will it be changed back to "Neutral - Mid product cycle"?

I don't care- I'm still getting it on February 16th!

well, aren't there strong rumours of a 3G update in mid-08? I wouldn't buy one now (and won't!)

Yeah, there are those G3 rumours. But I don't think that mid-08 is "soon". Soon is more like in 2 weeks from now.

FWIW, I don't think that 3G will be announced until the fall before the shopping season. It doesn't make sense to me that they would release it before then. And it'll piss off the majority of current owners if they announce it any sooner (Remember the price-drop reaction?). Just my opinion though- I don't have a 'confirmed source' who works in a cellphone store, like some other thread claims..... :D

Well since you asked, I'll tell you why I'm waiting.

1) Storage space. On my 80 GB iPod Video, I have 28 GB of music and 8 GB of video. The video is mostly there because I have the space, but I have most of my music syncing so I have everything with me. I could pare it down a bit and not sync any of my movies (ripped DVDs, then converted using Videora), but fitting everything into 8 GB would be a stretch for me. I'm waiting for a 16 GB model.

2) Calendar syncing. I have everything in Google Calendar, which then syncs with Thunderbird/Lightning on both my PC (main machine) as well as my MacBook. I *could* sync my calendar on my Mac since I can sync Google Calendar to iCal, but not my PC since I don't have Outlook on it. I don't want to have to sync my iPhone with my laptop just to get my calendar. I have no idea why they don't support a pure iCal sync--the standard, not the app.

3) No work email support. Well, since I'm the Exchange admin I *could* enable IMAP or POP3 on the Exchange server at work, but I tell you, I don't see that happening just for me. Having to go roundabout and use OWA through Safari would be obnoxious. No, I imagine that somewhere down the line someone will release an Entourage-like method of accessing OWA if there's no full Exchange support.

Number 1 requires a hardware refresh and is a deal-breaker for me unless I got a free iPhone, but I imagine that will happen this year, maybe in the WWDC or August MacWorld timeframe. Numbers 2 and 3 require software, either from Apple or from a 3rd party, but I see both happening at some point in time. Google Calendar is too popular to not allow some sort of sync, and Exchange is the de-facto business email standard.

So, I wait patiently.

I'm waiting on 1, 2, and 3G !

I read an article slating 3G as a standard, and why the iPhone didn't need it. I thought it was a joke! I've had 3G handsets, and had to go back to 2.5G recently, and there's *such* a difference!

A capacity bump would be nice, but if you're like me, and don't need EVERYTHING on your phone all the time, then it doesn't matter. With videos, I'm only ever going to watch 1 show or movie at a time, and I sync every night -- which automatically gets rid of watched shows and syncs in unwatched ones. It's brilliant. With music, I always listen to random stuff anyway. I get a new batch of random music with every sync, and make sure to have enough for the things I want on my phone ALL the time (like certain photos). It's perfect and remarkably easy for me, though I know some people like to know they can access anything from their library at any time. I'm not one of those people. If I desperately need to listen to a specific song, I just call it up on SeeqPod. I also believe there will come a time soon, with advancements in technology (we've already seen hints with MacBook Air), where capacity won't be as much of an issue -- and where we'll be able to get access to things wirelessly.

3G would be nice, but it's very possible it won't come out until the end of the year, if at all. The question is, can you wait that long? Maybe you can, but I'm soooooo happy I get to play with my iPhone for this entire year while others are waiting. EDGE is not as slow as people want to make it out to be, and is certainly good enough for my needs. And I'm actually quite happy my iPhone's battery doesn't drain so quickly like my previous 3G phone always did. It was such a drag! I won't consider a 3G iPhone unless they can guarantee the battery life will be as long as the current one.

My only regret about buying the first generation iPhone is that I wanted a slightly better camera -- but who knows which version of the iPhone will have an upgraded camera? That could be version 3 or 4 for all we know. I definitely don't want to wait that long for just a better camera.

A lot of the other requests people are asking for are software-related, and can be given with free updates. That's the true beauty of the iPhone!

I can see why some people still want to wait, and I was certainly one of them (well finance was a factor in the beginning, to be honest). But I think most people, if they really weigh the pros and cons, would be much happier having an iPhone NOW (if they're able to).

Got my iphone yesterday and am loving it....i just dont have enought time right now to play with all the features...but so far best phone i have owned

congrats. I am hoping to get mine today. waiting patiently for fedex to arrive.
3g is not available where I live anyway and I think this is a product for all my needs. for everyone else who likes to make opinions known as to why they won't buy one, well have fun waiting. :D
