Im a photographer as well. Id sell and get a display or keep the $.

If you don't need the iMac than sell it and save the money. There is no point keeping something when you wont use it. The longer you keep it, the less it will be worth.

I'm sure Apple will make enough gadgets in the future to take the money back :D

no doubt about that hahaha

It's old, not worth selling so just send it to me, I'm do you a favor and pay the shipping for you :D

Sell the iMac and keep the money. You can use it towards upgrades (like RAM and SSD) later on. There's no point of keeping things you don't need.

I was in the same situation as you and I decided to sell it. In the process of shipping it out now. Luckily a friend bought it from me so I didn't have to go through the hassle of ebay or craigslist.

Either you should keep it. It's nice having more than one machine to mess around on. Or you could sell it on craigslist.com (I usually do this). Just be aware of scams if you choose option #2.

Lol! Toilet mac? I figure its best selling it. Can an ipad function wellas an external screen? (seen some apps that can do this)

If there is no use just sell it and get the cash.
If you want to get a cinema display, get it.
Buy a SSD or more RAMs for your new MBP.
The new MBP can hold up to 16GB of RAM (yes apple only says 8GB but Max up to 16GB).
I'd sell the iMac and get more upgrades on my MBP

i ordered exactly the same mbp you have in your sig. 16gb!? probably hell expensive? guessing above 1000,-?

Just sell your iMac.
The 2011 MBP is more powerful anyway.
Plus your 17" is already a decent size too. My friend edits photos on his 17inch.

Yeah if its the 2009 model iMac, 2011 MBP with sandy bridge tech is more powerful anyways.
And same with you. I think cinema display is not needed. 17in is enough for me too haha
