i was upset it wasn't the 5 but at the time i just figured it would have the same specs about, minus screen size, and LTE, which isn't nationwide yet so i figured those 2 would save some battery life....i thought it was gonna have 1gb ram, but from what i'm reading only 512, i was shocked...but i plan on getting an iphone 5 when it comes out (gotta start saving now lol) which leads me to my first question

1. if a phone came out before my 2 years is up, does verizon let you pay a partial price of a phone, or is it full retail?

2. i'm a former blackberry user (because of the amazing battery life) but i decided to try something else because i dropped mine in beer lol and i'm currently using the blackberry i had before that...so i decided i'd give an android or iphone a try...and the iphone seems to generally better battery life, so i picked that. on my blackberry there was some settings and tweeks you could do to preserve battery.....any tips to make the battery last longer?

3. on my blackberry i could go in with some program i downloaded and remove anything i wanted and wouldn't use to clear up space from all the default crap...anything like this on the iphone?

4. i got a 16b white......i think it'd be smart to get a case....but i don't want to add any bulk to the case. and i'd like it to be white....any thin hard or maybe rubber skin suggestions?

what about screen protector? does it scratch easy? invisible shield? around the whole thing or just screen?

5. what do you guys do as far as warranty/insurance? i don't want to pay a fee monthly....i know it comes with a 1 year warranty, and normally i'll get a squaretrade.com warranty on my phone...anyone else ever use that site?

someone also mentioned jail breaking, i'm doing some research on that now

any other tips or suggestions?

i'll probably think of more questions, so i will post them if i do

Blackberries do not have 'amazing battery life', that's a total myth which has appeared because most of the things people do with their Blackberries aren't taxing on the device, so it can seem as if they last longer than more fully featured smartphones running Android or iOS. As soon as you start using heavy apps or watching video on a Blackberry the battery drains just as quickly.

well of course. smaller screen size, less apps and background applications running, etc=better battery life

that is why i had a blackberry, well and it had a physical keyboard, after my research it seemed like the iphone had the best touchscreen among other smartphones. but i don't mind giving up some battery life for an iphone

Probably not.

No. Not really much you'd want to remove, really. IMHO, of course.

4. i got a 16b white......i think it'd be smart to get a case....but i don't want to add any bulk to the case. and i'd like it to be white....any thin hard or maybe rubber skin suggestions?
For scratch protection, go with the invisible shield. But iPhone is pretty sturdy and can be handled pretty brutally and not get a scratch.

Go with AppleCare+. That's what I got. It's a ~$45 deductible for up to two accidents.

This is only if you want to do stuff that the iPhone doesn't support out of the box. Just keep doing some googling.

Full Retail.

As said earlier - BB don't have amazing battery life. I used them for 2 years and I cried every day. In fact, I had 2 spare batteries (no kidding). You can turn off wifi and BT when not in use to increase battery life. You can also decrease screen brightness and turn GPS apps running in background off to help. I don't do any of this and make it through my day. What does kill my battery through is Hanging with Friends.

I have no idea what this means. Rephrase?

Rubber? I wouldn't get it. IMO - rubber is a pain to pull out of the pocket. I had the vroom case and I could never get the phone out of my pants due to friction. I like soft plastic cases. I also like the bumper but others may disagree.

Nothing. I have dropped it and nothing has happened and I don't think I would ever get any warranty on a phone.

You can JB if you like but I don't see what you would gain out of it. iOS 5 is quite powerful and with the notification center, I see no reason to JB. Your choice.

any other tips or suggestions?

Don't drop it in beer.

The usual stuff. Normally it doesn't matter but if you want to stretch out the hours, turn off location services, and wifi, and bluetooth. And don't play video games all day. Power management is pretty impressive on iPhones in general, but at first battery life will seem terrible. That will be because you won't be able to put it down :)

Yes. New to iOS 5. Settings -> General -> About -> Usage. You can delete whatever you want. Pretty cool.

My wife likes speck. Members here like Otterbox. My 4's been naked since launch, never been dropped.

There's another thread going on about that now. Buy it if you can't afford an out-of-warranty mishap. But if you can afford an iPhone, you can probably afford to replace it if there's trouble. Extended warranties are very very profitable...for the companies that sell them. I'm trying to break the habit.

Hold off for a few months until you're sure of the benefits.

any other tips or suggestions?
Have fun, welcome to the cult^H^H^H^Hclub.

so i should get a screen protector? invisible shield around the whole thing or just screen?...does the screen scratch easy?

also does the iphone pick up wifi 'when available' and the network internet at other times?

i'd imagine wifi saves battery?
