Just picked up a brand new 13 inch MacBook Air 1.7 Ghz / 4GB RAM / 128 GB SSD.

I wanted to install snow leopard, so I created a "test" account and now I have been reading on the threads that it is a bad idea to install snow leopard.

How can I reformat it using Lion now? I just want to start clean.

Erase the drive using disc utility and then reinstall lion using lion recovery (came on your Mac).

It's not suggested to install an operating system onto a Mac that is earlier than the one it shipped with. It can reverse the polarity of the hard drive causing all sorts of issues.

HAHAHAHAHA. Sorry that made me laugh. Reverse the polarity. Hilarious.

It simply will not support the older OS because the appropriate drivers for all the newer hardware isn't in the older OS. That's the simple explanation.

I have heard of people doing it but they are likely missing out on proper drivers and some hardware features (possibly thunderbolt)

You don't seriously believe that, do you?

You know people might take you seriously… not everyone can read sarcasm on the Internet.

Whatever you do just don't cross the streams.

Just curious Werewolf, but why would you buy a new MBA right before new MBAs are announced? Did yours just give out and you needed one immediately?

This just made my entire day. :)

From the thread you linked:

You can use it but it definitely won't charge faster. It will still only charge at a 15 watt rate. Basically the electrons in the 45 watt charger are too big to fit into the MBA. So although they are larger it is harder for them to fit thus making it charge at the same rate.

Who said new MBA's are being announced? It's speculation and rumor, and at best, 99% of the attention surrounds new MBP's.

Yes... but fairly reliable rumors. I think it is pretty much universally accepted the entire Mac lineup will get refreshed in one way or another with Ivy Bridge based chipsets/cpus. The only question at this point is when.

Oh, come on. You didn't laugh about the bigger electrons?! Even funnier is that the OP of that thread believed it, ha!

And it gets even funnier after the engineers balked at this post later in the thread:

That's what a transformer is for. It resizes the electrons thus changing their voltage.
Pretty funny stuff but I can see how some people might take it seriously, hehe.

Yep, more stuff about new machines just keep popping up. I will say that the report you linked had a disturbing bit of news, no USB3 on the Airs?? I hope that's wrong, because USB3 is supposed to be a part of the Ivy Bridge chipset and I want a new Air with that capability

Sure they will be refreshed, but when that happens is anyone's guess. It doesn't look like it will be in the next month or so for sure. The LVIB chips needed for the MBA still haven't been announced, with the only estimate about when they'll be released being "this summer".

Maybe some people don't give a hoot when a refresh is coming.
