I had bought the 17" 2.8 i7 with Antiglare on Feb 13, and just exchanged it for the quad core. The guys in the store were totally cool...even laughing and one said "This is a no brainer...you HAVE to do this..."

Benchmarks to follow.

Check and see if Sata3 is present, please

So the 2.3 Ghz version isn't just a CTO option? I thought they only had 2.2 Ghz versions in-store?

So explain to me hoe the exchange process works. Could I take in my April 2010 MBP and exchange it for a new one for little to no cost? I mean, not sure if I would want too since i game a little, like black ops and wow, and soon assassins creed brotherhood. But, maybe?

First minor benchmark:

2.4 gig 42 minute HD TV episode in mkv encoded to .m4v for itunes using Handbrake:

i7 2.8 gig dual core: 24.38fps average 36 minutes total

i7 2.3 gig quad core: 54.22fps average 16 minutes total

Yikes.

Not sure how many WOW players there are out there, but my fps on the new machine are over 2x what they were on the 330m. Some will say WOW doesn't push fps very hard, but with the new graphics engine in Cataclysm thats not true.

Still need to throw Bootcamp at it and get some figures on some First Person Shooters. Id love to see Arkham Asylum on this thing.

Dammit, I got owned. :(

I also have yesterday's top of the line 17" i7 2.8 dual core with antiglare screen. My geekbench score, can't remember exactly was around 5985 or something similar. Not to mention the 6750 gpu is much faster than the old 330m. Around 2x the performance all around, dang.

I got mine last november, guess I'm out of options.

I am thinking about purchasing a new MBP, but this is my only concern. What settings are you running in WoW? What is you average FPS?

what are the temperature differences of the 2010 2.8 and the 2011 during the encode? Also... when you have it a little while can you tell a battery comparison? Did it really stay the same? If so... I will have buyers remorse =)

Congrats with your purchase. Please don't forget to give us your impressions your unit's temperature while under heavy load.

congrats on the new gear!
That's not QuickSync working. That's just Handbrake (fastest x264 encoder there is)
Apple has not shipped QuickSync drivers yet.

Uhh, no… it still isn't a very demanding game whatsoever.

Wrong. Go to Dalaran with 150 people in the main quad in the evening. On a Dual Geforce 295 liquid cooled quad core gaming tower at 1920x1200 I get 40fps. Anything I do in Crysis, FarCry, Fear2, Call of Duty Black Ops...much higher frame rates, usually over 100-150fps.

-Note: some of it is how you have WOW configured. Where the system typically gets pushed is in outdoor environments that have long draw distances, while being set at 1920x1200 at 4 or 8xAA.

Also, the new water rendering engine in WOW is on par with the better water engines out there (ie Crysis)

When I rendered video in Handbrake earlier a fan came on but it was really quiet. Ill throw the temp monitor on it and measure it this morning for some info.

My WOW settings comparrison was with everything set on medium, 4XAA and 1920x1200.
