I just won a bid for a PowerBook G4 on eBay, but it doesn't come with a power adapter. My friend offered me the power adapter for his iBook G4 which he no longer uses, but I don't know if it would work with the PowerBook G4. I don't know if it would make any difference, but the PowerBook G4 I got is the 12" model.

Which 'books? The wattage might be different, but I would try the donated adapter. The worst that will happen is it won't boot. IIRC all the G4 powerbooks used the smaller of the coaxial power plugs, some of the iBooks were larger.

I believe his to be a 12" iBook G4, but I'm not 100% sure.

The iBooks and 12" PowerBooks use the 45W adapter. All other PowerBook (AlBooks) use the 65W adapter.

The 45W is enough to keep a 65W PowerBook on, but not enough to charge it.

You can use a 65W adapter on iBooks/PowerBooks that are 45W. The adapter will step down.

Okay, just have a little confusion. Is it the 15" and 17" PowerBooks that need the 65W charger to charge? Is the 12" PowerBook capable of charging on a 45W charger?

I know you say it in the first sentence, but I'm a little slow because I've been sick for about three and a half weeks. I'm still a little confused.

If it helps a bit more, the PowerBook I bought is a 867MHz model.

The iBooks and the 12" PowerBooks are 45W. They can run and charge with a 45W adapter. If you use a 65W adapter for these Macs it will step down to 45W.

The 15 and 17" AlBooks are all 65W. They require a 65W adapter to charge, but can run on a 45W adapter (but not charge off a 45W adapter).

Does that help?

Yes, thanks. Sorry, I wasn't really thinking. The iBook G4 and the 12" PowerBook G4 have the same power jacks, right?
