I just realized that the aluminum macbooks of 2008 are not sold anymore and that the macbook line is still of the plastic generation with an upgrade on graphics card (same one that is on the 2008 ones) and that now all the aluminum kinds are all macbook pro?

What are the differences then between the 2008 aluminum MB and the aluminum MBP?

So the MB of 2008 are the MBP of 2009 but without the extra ports and expansions?

And a 7-hour rated battery instead of 5. But none of that compares to the fact that one possesses a Collector's Edition MacBook Aluminum. =D

Really? You JUST realized that. Anyway, to put it in a nutshell, everyone who purchased an aluminum MB was completely pissed when they made the 13" a MBP.

The 13" MacBook Pros replaced the limited edition, unibody MacBook. To make it a MacBook Pro, they added several things to increase the quality of the machine. Most notably:

A nicer, brighter LED screen.
Added a FireWire 800 port
Added a backlit keyboard
Added an SD card slot
Added a battery that lasts up to 7 hours per day
Increased the speed of the processor

As I remember, they added an SD card slot, a 7 hour non-removable battery, a better quality display, added FireWire 800, merged the audio in with the audio out to make a single hybrid port, lowered the price $100, enhanced the processor, added keyboard backlighting as standard and added the word "Pro."

Yeah, I feel like I was duped. I feel like I should call Apple and see if they can make a swap?

Ok, I think I have the same processor and I do have a back lit keyboard don't have 7 hours per day battery life, Firewire, or an SD Card slot.

I wasn't pissed. It's not like any of those thing are really noticeable on a day-to-day basis. I love my Alum MB. :)

You have a point there...i only noticed them when I was browsing the apple Store. But, now that I know, it would be great to have a firewire to make backing up faster. and I wouldn't have minded saving money.

I wasn't pissed. Nothing they added makes a big difference to me. If the 13" MBP had been around last November I would have chosen it, but in two years I'll buy an Arrandale-based Mac laptop (or whatever the follow-up to Arrandale is), and life marches on. In the meantime my unibody MB will do just fine.

That is very presumptuous.

Those that bought the uMB filled their bill just fine.
Those that did not becuase it did not.

But a lot of customers needed FW, it likely hurt sales, so Apple make the MBP13

In fact, latest laptop sales figures for Apple show a 8% jump since July (when the MBP13 was released)
