I thought these laptops were pretty new still
it actually came with OSX not leopard whats the deal? do i have to pay again for an update?

I would also like to ask for few tips for new MBP owners! how to keep this beautiful machine in a good condition. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MAC
i'm still learning how to do the mouse thing

Err...dude...Leopard is OS X, it the latest version of OS X, if you used to be a window user, think it as Windows XP and Windows Vista, both are windows, but the XP and Vista are not the same, true?

Don't know if you get my point

Leopard is OS X, X = roman numeral for 10, leopard is OS X.5 (10.5.xx)

Tiger is OS X.4(10.4.xx) got to the apple at the top left of your mac and click it and then go to about this mac and look at the software version.

A company already had the OS 10 trademark, which meant Apple had to put a lot of money into OS X being Unix ... so they kept it.

And the cat names were the point releases.

lol thanks i get the point
sorry guys i feel like an idiot but i really dont know lol

No problem

No problem dude....

The more you work with Leopard, the more you'll see why it's soooo much better than Windows. I tell my PC friends that it's like sitting in a room with a fan... You don't notice how much noise the fan is making until you turn it off! Feel free to use the OS X forums on Macrumors or even call apple if you have random questions.

do not insult Leopard like that! :(

Tiger is OS X.4(10.4.xx) got to the apple at the top left of your mac and click it and then go to about this mac and look at the software version.

actually Tiger is Mac OS X 10.4 and Leopard is Mac OS X 10.5 (not X.4, X.5 etc.) ;)

It came with tiger? well, when did you buy it? i just got a refurb. MBP, what were the specs on yours? mine came with leapord and it was the 2.4, 200 gb HDD, multitouch, all that good stuff.
you should call apple and ask about it.

Get an incase hard shell, speck case, or macally leather shell for it to keep it pretty.

When I read it, I thought the OP was saying it came with 10.4 and not 10.5.

For the OP -

Go to the little :apple: on the top left and click
Go to about this Mac
Underneath Mac OS X, does it say Version 10.5.5? If it says 10.5.4 or lower click software update.
If it says something below 10.5.X, call Apple.

We've all been there before, so don't worry.

BTW, I call it OS EX and not OS TEN just to mess with people.

Just thought of this.

Make sure you go into system preferences and click keyboard & mouse. From there, it will let you change your preferences for the trackpad/mouse. For example, you can right click by taping down with two fingers.

(At the computer lab I work at, most people have no idea about that kind of thing.)

If you just google: MacBook Pro casing hard shell you'll find plenty of results. I vote for the Spec though.

Don't worry about protecting it with a shell; they just look ugly and get in the way. Get a sleeve for carrying around (I got a Booq Vyper) in addition to a bag and use the included black cloth, or a microfiber cloth, to clean the screen and body. You may also want some Moshi palm guards.
