Long story short, I've had these cans for alittle over a year now, as well as a pair of Bowers & Wilkins On-Ear P5s. The P5s are equally as comfortable, and in my opinion sound much better overall (and I'm a heavy bass lover). While the headset itself can be alittle clunky, all in all they sound fantastic. So I generally use those for longer trips, the beats for quick trips.
This past June, the Beats caught some sort of short. Thankfully, they were covered by the one year warranty under Apple, and as with most things these days, even though they could have been repaired by a professional, I ended up receiving a brand new pair. It took me months to get in and get this done because of scheduling, so for the past four months I've been using the P5s daily.
Fast forward to today. Received the replacement Beats Studio Wireless. They sound horrible. I don't know if it's iOS 9, but bringing the volume up to any one of the last three bars will COMPLETELY DISTORT the cans. You can feel the bass punching, but it's so crippled by distortions that it just hurts. I don't remember any volume setting distorting when running 8.4.1 but who knows. Sound check fixes this, but also lowers the volume. The P5s do not have this issue.
Second - as with the last pair shortly before they ended up shorting out, there's a slight hissing noise after connecting to BT...almost like a distortion notice from back in the 90s when your cell phone ringing would distort your headphones.
Third, and the biggest issue...again, not sure if this is iOS 9 or not, but in the first 10 minutes of use on 9.0.1, my iPhone 6 dropped the BT connection randomly. I have to power cycle them in order for the phone to reconnect. Also, I noticed that switching between various EQ's during Music playback will also drop the BT connection. These are not things that I had seen with the original pair, back on 8.1.4 so as you can imagine, I'm a bit disappointed.
Have been thinking abut grabbing this from Amazon to make the P5s wireless (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00M...1_10?colid=ENWR28BKK73Q&coliid=I2PTK22BHKYO0Q), and just sticking with those. They're just as comfortable, and believe it or not, have much better bass response, and also handle low frequencies much better than any beats headphones I've used.
I know this was super long, and I apologize. Am wondering if anyone else out there has spent time with these cans and iOS 9 who might be seeing these same issues. It's extremely ironic to me that a pair of headphones that Apple is now more or less 100% behind, distorts HORRIBLY at any volume past 75%. If you think I'm exaggerating at all, drop into an Apple Store and try them out...it's bad.
