My going on 2.5 year old MBP pro 2.16 started to has a little fan buzz and I ordered two fans from iFixit. I already replaced the original 5400 80 gig HD with a nice 7200 about a year ago but I had forgot that there was there a ton of screws, and tape, and had to re-glue the tape on top of the heat sinks back onto the new fans. LOL What an ordeal, but now it is nice and quiet and of course new fans kinds of gives you peace of mind.
So, if anyone is comtemplating this procedure suck it up and start taking screws off, just be patient and careful it's really not that hard.
