Well after years of just sending files back and forth i finally decided to set up a home network between 3 laptops and a desktop, two xp machines, one vista and a mac osx...

I followed this guide which is excellent if anyone needs to figure out how to do it. http://www.cnet.com.au/file-sharing-between-xp-vista-and-os-x-on-a-local-network-339289508.htm

My question is tho in the guide they say to create a "share" user which i did, but i also have my main account that i use when i start my mac and log into.

My question is there anyway to get rid of this "share" user from the login list? I dont want him listed there, that user is strictly used when i log in from the other pcs to browse the files on the mac..

Well i just did this command in the terminal

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow
HiddenUsersList -array-add account1

where account1 is the account i wanted to hide, but the problem is now under the log in window it still shows a "Other" option for users..

Im just wondering anyway to get rid of this? Also is it really necessary for me to have this "share" user for my networking??

Thanks
