What if the reason M1 is limited in monitors on purpose? I just realized with the upcoming universal controls, its possible that you can use the AR glasses and drag multiple windows off of your desktop and onto the wall and they would be like secondary monitors.

Granted none of this is confirmed, but it’s completely in the realm of possibility.

Well I won’t say that it will never be possible, but we are at best 5-7 years from this kind of feature. I don’t think that it’s the reason for Apple to not support more than 1 monitor, and they certainly should. AR tech has still way more improvements to do before doing something as bold as replacing a monitor.

Maybe it might not be the reason, but i honestly believe this is one of the big end goals for ar glasses and universal controls

It is indeed limited on purpose. But there is no hidden motivation or secret plan behind it, it's just a design choice.

Apple assumes that people interested in low end Mac configurations are going to be fine with the ability to connect just one external monitor.

People that need more than one external monitor are usually professionals or people that have bigger budgets to spend on a nicer setup. Apple will address this market soon with "pro" Macs powered by a different SOC (probably M1X) that is gonna be faster and have fewer limitations compared to the M1.
