Just to get bold

Funny,when I type I like to select the font size, then add bold but all of a sudden bold is not there to add. Is this a trick or is there a really simple way to do this?

What application are you typing in?

Typically you can use the command + B shortcut

I was just trying to reply in email. At one time Bold was an option under fonts but left me for some reason. Got me looking for sure...
