Hello, I just recently sold my 13" Macbook and upgraded to a 15" MBP. Im by no means a power user...my main reason for doing this was for the dedicated graphics card, and because i feel like the 15" will retain its value better because its a "pro".

My 13" handled everything just fine, except for the Diablo 3 beta, but im pretty sure the 15" will be able to handle it just fine.(probably on low settings, but idc...i just want to be able to play it)

Sold: $700
13" 2008 Aluminum Macbook
2.4 Ghz C2D
4GB ram
Nvidia 9400m

Bought: $800
15" 2009 MBP
2.8 Ghz C2D
4 GB ram
Nvidia 9400M + 9600M

So what do you think guys? Good upgrade for $100?

Definitely. Big upgrade on the dedicated video card + bigger screen

You paid the right price for your new computer, but man I feel bad for the guy who gave you $700 for a 4 year old 13"...

I kind of felt bad too, knowing how much of a better computer he can get for that price, but if you look on Ebay some of the macbooks with the same specs are actually selling for a tad bit more. Its amazing how these machines retain their value.

I got parts to (build) a late 08 macbook for around $600 total... then one of the auctions i looked at went for $400 with no HD and broken keyboard. I was ticked ;)

But I am planning to pimp mine out..Custom keyboard backlight, apple logo, painted trackpad (maybe) and I am looking into re-anodizing it black. Its gonna be Schweet!

Absolutely amazing deal! I just shelled out $1,200 (plus another couple hundred in programs) for a new MBP13. I also didn't realize a newer version is due momentarily. Oh well. At least with Apple products, you know the hardware won't go out of date very quickly and the software will be updated routinely for many years.

That's a steal. Bigger screen and dedicated GPU for 100 bucks is a definite win. The minimum requirements for Diablo III is an 8600M GT, so you should be good.

Thanks guys...A bunch of my friends told me i was stupid for buying essentially the same laptop especially when theres a new one just around the corner, but they don't know what they're talking about.:D

What do you mean when you said the 13" isn't Pro?

Upgrade memory to 8gb $40
Upgrade hd to ssd, $100
And your Mbp will beat any new models.

Yea i already have the 8gb ram, but i bought a 500gb 7200rpm WD Scorpio Black HD a little while back before SSD prices fell. Its still fairly new so i'll stick it out for a while and wait for SSD prices to fall even more.

Beat them at what? Booting up?

Put a $100 ssd in a new model and it will run circles around this one.

Writing things like that just makes people look so foolish...

Sorry to say but you got ripped off massively. The extra display size will mean it is heavier to carry. The extra graphics card will cause it to become hotter and use more electricity in the long run. Also MacBooks are no longer sold so they will soon become a collectors item and sell for far more than you got for it.

All in all a bad deal.

Collector's item… :p

Ok so it turns out that this 15" model only had the Nvidia 9400m :(
Im in the process of returning it.

In the mean time i just picked up a 2010 MC371LL/A 15" for $978. Spent a bit more than i had hoped for, but eh...still a good deal.

Now the 2010 is a MUCH better deal. Well worth it.
