Just upgraded to Lion (10.7) and need help with window resizing

I am a long time Mac user (since 1994/System 7.5) who just upgraded to OS X Lion. I've noticed that when I move part of a window off screen and then move it back on-screen, it has been automatically resized (i.e. shrunk) according to how much remained on-screen. I don't want it to do that. I want it to be the same size when I move it back as it was before I moved it, so how do I fix this?

I think I figured out what was wrong. I thought I was moving part of the window off-screen, but I was actually resizing the window from the top (a new feature in Lion.) If this is the case, then problem solved.
