I have two partitions on my SSD, one for personal use and one for coding. I just upgraded both partitions to Monterey and now when I launch into an OS on a partition, the other partition's drive is present on my current Desktop.

This did not happen in Catalina. In Catalina, I only received a message to unlock the other disk. Now, I get that message, which I dismiss, but I still see the other disk on my Desktop.

Anyone know how I can get macOS to not show the other partition's disk on my current Desktop?

Thanks

open finder, go to settings (command+, ) and deselect what you don't want

I know how to remove ALL hard disks and that is not what I am asking above. In Catalina, upon startup, I would receive a prompt to unlock the other disk. If I canceled out of that message, the other hard disk would not mount.

Now, when I do the same in Monterey, the other hard disk still mounts. I want this other hard disk to not be present, only the disk with my current OS.

I suspect that the password to unlock the one you don't want mounting has been saved, so it mounts automatically. You could look for it in Keychain and delete it, and then it would ask as it did in Catalina.

I assume in Catalina that FileVault was enabled on the one you don't want to mount......is it still enabled now?

There are other ways (eg https://akrabat.com/prevent-an-external-drive-from-auto-mounting-on-macos/). That mentions an external but it might apply to a second internal volume.

I don't think it's due to the password being stored in keychain because of the prompt I receive upon startup:

I just checked FileVault and it shows being on (on both partitions).

No you're right that can't be it. Very odd that you cancel that and it mounts anyway. that specifically says -Data volume.
Can't suggest anything else I'm afraid.

My guess it's just one of those bugs. I think it's just displaying the disk because when I cancel out of that prompt and click on the other disk, no data is displayed. I hope that's the case. But I'll submit a bug report.

Upgrading from Catalina also randomly created a guest user account for one of my disks. That was weird too.
