Just wondering.. is this epub syncing new?

I just noticed this for the first time with my iPhone and iPad... my ePubs that were not purchased from Apple are syncing page numbers on both of my devices. I tried searching but everything comes up with old stuff. Is this a new feature? Am I going insane?

If the same file exists on two devices the (bookmarks and) last read page will sync. This has been happening since iOS 5.
