My and my friends are currently using a Canon S2IS for recording video and its been doing a surprisingly good job, but we are looking to upgrade. I am deciding which would be a better upgrade(in terms of video) from the S2IS. They MC200(MC500 if lucky) and the Gigashot can be had for under $400(in the case of the Toshiba its the V10 and 30gig and). Do they these models have a solid feel in the hand or is one better than the other.

Space is not an issue as we have been using a 2gig and 1gig sd card on the S2IS and 2gig(at max specs) can only hold about 15mins of video(which is fine for us as he like to transfer everything he has done that day on my comp). He likes to do a lot of black & white shots so that would be key. Audio quality is also key, and S2IS does a good job, however in quiet scenes you can hear the camera focusing(they are in short bursts) which can be annoying. So minimal noise would be nice, but my understanding is that since the Toshiba is HDD camera that you may hear some HDD noise. However, will you hear a similar noise with a cf micro-hd in the JVC's? Which has a better external mic support(if they do support it). Battery is also key as I use two set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries and get decent performance.

Now we do editing in imovie(like to move to fce 4 when that comes out). So which one will have the better mac support i.e. imovie(06), and fce? Recommendations for similar cameras(in the same price range) would be welcomed. Thank you

BTW tripod support would be nice.
