I'm wanting to setup a Karaoke system using an iPad and Apple TV. I currently have a AV receiver connected to a projector via HDMI. I can mirror my iPad onto the projector. Question is, does anyone know how I can mix the audio output from Apple TV with the Microphone and feed it into receiver?

Karaoke with Apple TV

A lot of different ways to rig this, but all of them will require a bit more hardware.
Option #1. You can connect your iPad directly to projector via HDMI. This will be a more reliable method than airplay.
Then you would connect the audio outputs of the iPad into a small mixer such this unit from Behringer:

You would also plug your microphone into this unit and connect it to your amplifers and speakers.
You don't need the AppleTV for this option.
Option #2
Follow the steps above, but include AppleTV and airplay.
You need to get the optical outputs of the Apple converted to analog using something like this:

The outputs of the D/A converter would then connect to your mixer (along with your mic) and then sent out to your amps/speakers.
The last option would be to get an audio interface that has both XLR inputs for your microphone and Optical In for your Apple TV. This would be the most costly way, but would afford you the ability to record the audio and has other uses than just your karaoke rig.

With option 2, ATV would go HDMI into receiver then from Receiver HDMi out to projector I'm assuming. Would it better to then take audio from the ATV and convert to analog or can I take audio out from iPad into mixer?
Will receiver still be able to switch video from iPad and audio from mixer simultaneously?
