I just bought a 4870 for my Mac Pro 1,1. Is there any advantage to keeping the 7300 GT in there, or disadvantage? It does give me a few more DVI outs if I add a third monitor, I guess. What about Aperture or other apps that use the video card - my guess is that it doesn't add anything, but I don't know. Thanks for any info.

I've now got a flashed 4870 (1GB VRAM) and the original 7300 in my 1,1 and find the extra card an advantage, even when using apps such as Lightroom. I find the scrolling is smoother, especially when using dual displays. Moving windows between displays seems to be a bit choppy at times, but since I rarely do this it's not a big deal.

I have my main (23" ACD) on the 4870, and secondary (22" Dell) on the 7300.

It doesn't hurt, I figure.

It will give you 0% performance increase, but more heat in the case. The only benefit is more outputs.
