I have been waiting til I finally used all of my minutes for my GoPhone account, but now I'm finally ready to purchase my first iPhone. iPhone 4, of course.

However, I really want to keep my current GoPhone number, but I'm not sure if I will be able to if I purchase the iPhone from the Apple website. I haven't really seen the activation process, so I don't know what to expect there. Do I need help of AT&T reps or can I do this myself ?

Also, some practical questions, maybe you guys have any tips to save some money (although I'm afraid I'm paying a lot of money for services I won't be using): I will be on the cheapest plan (450 minutes), and I still won't use all of the minutes I get. However, occasionally I'll be making international calls, which of course AT&T charges me more for. How does that work with messaging without a plan ? Will they charge me for that on top of my minutes (if I don't get the messaging plan) or is that part of the plan ? I text enough for it to be worth a messaging plan if it is additional, but not if I can use "minutes" to text with.

Thank you,
Scott
