I want to have my G-Drive external hard drive icon to stay on my desktop all them time. Is this possible for the icon to stay there when the hard drive is removed.

Keep External Hard drive Icons on Desktop

Right click on the drive icon and select Make Alias. You can also drag the drive icon onto the right side of the dock, right click on it in the dock and select folder and list. Not sure why you want the icon to be left around after you eject the hard drive as clicking on it will serve no purpose other then open finder to to the boot hard drive.
