So - all of a sudden it appears I have a bunch of folders in my Applications folder that relate to the applications themselves.

I am running Monterey 12.7, Its happened on both my MacPro 5,1 running OpenCore and my 2016 MacBook Pro running 12.7 native.
If I delete the folders they come back a few hours later. The apps ran fine after I deleted the folders and emptied the trash.
I don't remember when it first happened but it was before I updated to 12.7 so I would have been on 12.6.2.
I've run virus and malware checkers - nothing I've run Onyx - nothing....

Any suggestions most welcome

An app is a bunch of files. These are located inside the app package (or bundle) which Finder shows as the app (as. on the right). Normally your can right click on any app and "Show Package Contents". That is what you are seeing on the left. You must have done something (I don't know what) to display all packages as folders.

DON'T delete them. They are the app.

Is that view all the time? Does it disappear after a reboot?

Thanks for the reply

Show package contents on the app does show the normal contents

I can / have deleted the extra folders and the app still works perfectly

So stumped….

are you running any kind of backup or sync software? maybe its settings went astray at some point and it started to attempt to copy apps into the Applications folder, which created this strange effect.

I think this issue can be caused by a third-party app in general…inclusive of backup or sync software.

OP: What third-party utilities, if any, have you installed?

Hi guys,

I run Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner but only on the Mac Pro NOT the MacBook.

I don't know the cause but I have deleted and reinstalled some of the apps and corresponding "rouge' folders to see if that fixes the problem.

I will advise tomorrow.

Cheers
