iPod touch keep getting this error message "the network connection was reset"

I bought the ipod touch yesterday and after trying to download from itunes I am ready to throw this thing out the window... keep getting this error message.. we could not complete your itunes store request. The network connection was reset. OKAY.. I have done everything imaginable to fix this... what it is going on?? Thank in advance for any help...
