Keep losing emails

Hello,

Emails keep disappearing from the list in the email app. I’ll receive an email, open it, go do something else, return to the email app and the email seems to be gone from the list. The email isn’t actually gone, I can still find it with the search function, but it’s just no longer listed.

What functionality is causing this and how do I turn it off?

It happens with notification emails too. I’ll see a notification about A, mark it as read and suddenly it’s about B.

What is happening with the email app? I have to be able to rely on it so this isn’t fun.

I think the common denominator is that the subject titles are the same so it may be trying to group stuff or something and thereby removing important emails without my permission from the list.

Look in the bottom left of the mail app and make sure you don't have the Filter by Unread on. If that round icon is highlighted, the filter is on and will only show you unread emails.

If that's not the issue, then not sure why you are having this issue.

In Mail on iPhone, use filters to show only certain messages, like Unread messages. You can also choose which email accounts notify when a Focus is on.

Thanks but it’s not that. I only use that filter for specific purposes and I always try to keep my inbox up to date.

It’s like it’s grouping stuff, probably based on the subject line.

Go to Settings > Apps > Mail and review your "Threading" settings...particularly the "Organize by Thread" one.

Thank you very much, this must be it! I’ve turned off “minimize read messages”, maybe that’s it. If this doesn’t work I’ll switch and turn off “organize by thread”.
