Keep macbook from going to sleep with lid closed

I have a Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion that is hooked up via a HDMI cable to an external display. I also have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

I don't want the Macbook to go to sleep or hibernate when I close the lid.

Is there a way to prevent it from doing that?

You should be able to wake it up with the keyboard, but if that won't work still, try caffeine:

It is a menubar app that prevents macs from sleeping.
